Three fatal wrecks in two weeks, all oilfield workers

In three separate car crashes in just the past two weeks, all of those who died in these wrecks were oilfield workers, and in at least one of the accidents - the latest accident that happened on Monday - a pickup driver, 27-year-old Juaquin Mireles-Munoz, is thought to have fallen asleep behind the wheel when his truck went into oncoming traffic.

Mireles-Munoz hit 61-year-old Rogelio Banda Cabrera head-on. Cabrera, who was also driving a pickup truck, along with Mireles-Munoz, both died at the scene.

As Eva Ruth Moravec reports for the San Antonio Express-News, the car crash happened at seven in the morning in McMullen County, roughly 75 miles south of San Antonio.

At the time of writing this blog post, there was a not-so-sympathetic comment by a reader who goes by the handle "Caramba." The comment read: "The way these oil/gas field workers drive it was bound to happen. DPS and local law enforcement are aware of this deadly problem but they never seem to be around."

Relative merits and demerits of the Texas Department of Public Safety aside, falling asleep behind the wheel - a signal that you are too tired to be on the road - is a pretty clear sign of negligence.
