Roads 'overwhelmed' because of Eagle Ford Shale

Roads are "overwhelmed," said the vice president of the Dimmit County Chamber of Commerce, and don't we know it. Not a day goes by when drivers don't feel the change on South Texas roads, causing everything from close calls and minor mishaps to catastrophic injuries from serious oil tanker and other tanker truck accidents.

The 8,000 oil and gas workers who are projected to flock to the Eagle Ford Shale by 2025 doesn't even include support personnel, like truck drivers, as Vicki Vaughan reports for Fuel Fix.

And already, people are referring to the Eagle Ford Shale drilling boom as having caused a "night and day change" in the community.

On the other hand, there are significant economic advantages because of the drilling boom. Property values, for example, have gone up by 118 percent, as Vaughan reports.

There will also be an inevitable boom in housing construction as supply attempts to keep up with demand. There are plenty of vacancies, but many of those vacancies qualify as nothing more than "shacks."
