Texas DPS troopers on the look-out for Karnes County, Eagle Ford Shale trucks

As Eva Ruth Moravec reports for the San Antonio Express-News, the Texas Department of Public Safety wants to make the roads safer for drivers around the Eagle Ford Shale.

"We've seen double and triple the amounts of traffic," said one trooper, "and complaints have come in. We know these oil companies aren't going anywhere anytime soon, so we're trying to work together to make the roadways safe for everyone."

Safe roadways is exactly the change we need in South Texas, given that 18-wheelers and oil tankers and other commercial vehicles have caused fatal accidents in Karnes County and Wilson County this year - in fact, three fatal accidents in each of those counties so far in 2012.

DPS troopers are looking for traffic offenses of both the moving and non-moving variety. An example of a moving violation would be speeding. An example of a non-moving violation might be big rig drivers who are skirting safety rules by driving too long behind the wheel, which could lead to a fatigued-driving accident.
