Downplaying risks of texting while driving could be dangerous

Most people understand that texting while driving is a dangerous activity. The problem is, many people still do it. They might think that they are capable of multitasking, and the other people on the road are not good at texting and driving. A recent study found that men are more likely to downplay the risk of distracted driving from texting. Even though women send more text messages on average, men are more likely to think that they are capable of effectively sending text messages while driving.

According to another report, only 3 percent of the population can effectively do more than one task at a time. Even the 3 percent of people who might be able to multitask effectively, can't possibly predict when another car or something might cross their path while they are focusing on sending a text message.

People who are injured in car accidents caused by texting drivers might be wise to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. They can help a person understand their rights and work to seek compensation for expenses that result from their  injuries.

Sometimes a person isn't able to work while they recover from an accident. This can result in a loss or reduction of income. If a person doesn't have significant savings, they might be forced to choose what bills they can or cannot pay.

These are decisions that a family should never have to pay. A person who texts while driving should be held accountable when their negligence causes injuries to another person.
