Long String of Bad Luck Includes a Death from Drunk Driving

The Law Offices of Tyler & Peery

18-year-old Christopher Barrow was killed as a result of a drunk driver, making his 74-year-old mother, Zenoma Barrow, a survivor of every one of her five sons, save one, as Leslie Williams reports for NOLA.com.

Two of those sons were struck and killed by cars while they were walking.

This week a judge found the drunk driver guilty of vehicular homicide in Christopher Barrow's death. At the end of the trial, Zenoma Barrow had a lot to say about her adopted son. She said, "I home-schooled him. He was so intelligent - and kind. At 10 he learned to cook, and he wanted to be a chef. He had so much potential."

Christopher Barrow was hit while walking and was dragged roughly one block by the drunk driver, whose blood-alcohol content was twice the legal limit, as Williams reports.

Another of Zenoma Barrow's sons, Freddie Barrow III, was also struck by a car while walking, the victim of a hit-and-run in the 1990s. The hit-and-run driver turned himself in the following day.

In Freddie's case, the driver who hit him was acquitted, but in Christopher's case, the driver was found guilty. Zenoma Barrow said, "This time we can finally say that we have a court system that rendered justice."
