Pickup Goes Wrong Way, Ends in Fatalities

There is absolutely no reference to drunk driving in Hollie O’Connor’s report for the San Antonio Express-News, but the dozen or so online readers’ comments on the story make good guesses as to what caused an accident involving a pickup truck and a big rig in Texas earlier this month.

And, unfortunately, the accident resulted in the deaths of both the driver and passenger in the pickup.

One comment in particular characterizes the likeliest cause of the accident: “How many times do we have to continue to hear the same kind of story (3 A.M drunk driving the wrong way on the Hwy) before we get even tougher on drunk drivers and enablers of drunk drivers the local bars. How many more are going to have to die?”

And another comment assumes drunk driving: “Wow…once again…wrong-way drunks.”

But another online reader asks, “How in the heck does a person drive on the wrong side of a major highway??”

The answer is negligence – whether it’s drunk driving, drowsy driving, or distracted driving.
