December the Month of Anti-Drunk Driving Campaigns in Texas

The Law Offices of Tyler & Peery

The Texas Department of Transportation has some new advertising for December. According to KBTX News, the ads will be placed everywhere: pint glasses, urinals, gas pumps. The ad will say, "Don't drive if you're tipsy, buzzed or Blitzen. Call a cab or get a sober ride home."

The anti-drunk driving campaign is part of a "blitz," reports KBTX News, meant to discourage drunk driving and encourage designated drivers, cab rides, or staying home rather than drinking and driving.

And the campaign seems to be working, looking at a survey conducted in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Apparently 75 percent of survey respondents claim to have recently seen - as in within the past month - an anti-drunk driving message.

The hope is that more Texas will choose not to get behind the wheel.

This also includes those who get behind the wheel as their profession: truck drivers and other commercial drivers who operate trucks for a living. In Texas, if you are a truck driver and you get behind the wheel after you've had one too many, you not only put your own commercial driver's license at risk, but you also put other motorists at risk with a wayward big rig.
