When Tractor Trailers and Fire Trucks Collide
It's not necessarily the end of danger after the fire trucks and other first responders arrive at the scene of an accident. As Denise Blaz reports for Fire Rescue 1, Interstate 20 in Abilene, Texas, was the site of a tractor trailer accident when a big rig came along and smashed into an Abilene Fire Department fire truck.
The fire truck had stopped at a preexisting crash site and firemen were working to clear the area and assist the motorists who had been involved in the original crash. At 11 in the morning, the big rig came and the truck driver apparently misjudged the situation.
The fire truck was parked in the middle of the highway, blocking traffic, and the truck driver tried to switch lanes and ended up clipping the back end of the fire truck.
The fire truck did not appear to be seriously damaged, and there were no injuries; however, last year, Blaz reports that Abilene recently purchased a replacement fire engine for one that was totaled in a fire truck accident - showing that major accidents involving fire trucks do happen from time to time.
