Firefighter: Truck Accident 'Worst He'd Seen' After 24 Years on the Job
According to a firefighter who responded to a truck accident involving Dana Johnson's husband, the accident scene was one of the worst he had ever seen in more than 24 years on the job - but, as Dana sees it, the fatal big rig crash that killed her husband was no accident.
"No," Dana told the coroner on the phone, as Stuart Watson reports for WCNC News. "Don't tell me that." Dana goes on to say that the accident could have been prevented altogether, sparing her husband's life.
Driving while fatigued is a big problem. When it comes to truckers, driving while fatigued is a problem because, writes Watson, truckers are hauling tons of cargo down the interstate. In short, sleepy driving puts other people at risk.
It turns out that the driver who caused the accident - both Dana's husband and the other driver were driving big rigs - had a problem with sleep apnea, which causes fatigue because it interrupts sleep.
"My first thought was: Why was he allowed to drive?" Dana says.
