Daughter of Wal-Mart Founder Arrested for DWI
The second-richest woman in America, as Brian Soloman writes for Forbes, was nabbed for DWI in October and spent the night in jail - on her 62nd birthday. Alice Walton, who runs a horse ranch in Texas, is the daughter of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton.
Apparently, this wasn't Alice Walton's first brush with the law when it comes to drunk driving. Alice Walton was arrested for DWI in 1998. To the police officers who pulled her over, Alice Walton is said to have asked, "Do you know who I am?"
She refused to submit to a test for blood-alcohol content in both DWI arrests, as Soloman reports.
In her recent arrest, Alice Walton spent the night in jail and was released the following morning. Her attorney said, "Ms. Walton was pulled over by a patrolman with the Department of Public Safety for driving 71 miles per hour in an unattended 55 miles per hour construction zone. She was returning home from a birthday dinner with friends at a Ft. Worth restaurant. She accepts full responsibility for this unfortunate incident and deeply regrets it."
Alice Walton is currently 10th on the Forbes 400 list with a net worth of $20.9 billion.
