Drunk driver could get 10 years behind bars

In 1993, San Antonio resident Jim Blihgnse was killed by a drunk driver.

Now, after 17 years “on the run,” as Marvin Hurst reports for KENS 5 News, the drunk driver will be sentenced in Bexar County next week and could get up to 10 years behind bars.

As Hurst points out, 10 years is less than the 17 years the man spent eluding the police, but you take what you can get.

After the drunk-driving accident, Juan Carlos Guerrero fled the U.S. and went to Mexico, but came back under the alias of Alejandro Mejia.

“Mejia” was then arrested for drunk driving – not once, but twice – under that name.

It was DNA evidence that implicated “Mejia” in the 1993 fatal accident.
