Allstate: Christmas Eve is the worst day for number of auto accidents

According to auto insurance company Allstate, four of the five days for the highest number of car accident claims in Texas take place in the month of December.

One of them is Christmas Eve.

The owner of an Allstate agency in San Antonio, Texas, speculated as to why that might be:

“The increase in crashes could be related to more people being on the roads traveling and shopping during the holidays, weather changes and other distractions.”

In fact, Christmas Eve isn’t just one of the worst days for auto accidents.

If the Allstate data is correct, Dec. 24 is the worst day for auto accidents, with a jump in claims to the tune of 22 percent compared to the daily average throughout the year. (The data is taken from 2006 to 2010.)

If you must be out on the roads on Christmas Eve, be careful. Do what you can to pay attention to the road. Don’t text, speed, or get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
