Safe-driving tips for Christmas Eve

As we wrote last week, Allstate Insurance says that Christmas Eve is the worst day for the number of auto accident claims in Texas. It spikes at 22 percent on December 24, making it the worst day among five for Texas drivers.

In an effort to help Texans avoid a car wreck this holiday, Allstate Insurance offered three tips that all revolve around safe driving practices. These tips are:

  1. Avoid distracted driving.
  2. Don’t speed in bad weather.
  3. Don’t drink or use drugs while driving.

These tips are based on common sense, but every holiday Texans get into accidents because the tips weren’t followed.

When it comes to distracted driving, texting and mobile phone use still tops the list as the worst offense. But, according to Allstate, you should also put Christmas packages in the trunk so you’re not futzing with them while driving.

Speeding in bad weather is an obvious way to cause an accident.

And as for drunk driving, just beware that Texas law enforcement will be on the roads in force throughout the holiday season, looking for those suspected of drunk driving. If you cause an alcohol-related accident that injures or kills someone, you face criminal charges and open yourself up to civil liability.
