Recent Accident Involving Hit-And-Run Big Rig Driver Claims 16 Lives
On Saturday the driver of a big rig caused a horrific truck accident in Coahuila in northern Mexico, an accident that claimed the lives of 16 people, according to Channel 6 News (KRIS TV) in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The big rig driver left the scene of the accident. It's not clear whether he faces hit-and-run charges in the state.
Friends and family were riding in a truck when it was hit by the big rig (when the big rig crossed the center line) including a girl on her way to celebrate her fifteenth birthday. (It's not known, at this time, whether she also lost her life.)
The fact that the big rig driver fled the scene, while not conclusive in and of itself, is highly indicative of fault in this accident, especially given that Mexican authorities' initial investigation shows that the big rig crossed the center line.
Although this truck accident happened in northern Mexico, it is quite similar to the many truck accidents happening in southern Texas, due in large part to the Eagle Ford Shale oil boom. These accidents are happening for a variety of reasons. Some of the common causes include truck drivers pushing too hard and falling asleep behind the wheel and speeding. If a truck driver causes an accident for these or other reasons, an injured motorist can seek compensation for his or her injuries.
