Another Bus-Truck Crash Kills Two Kids and Both Drivers

The Law Offices of Tyler & Peery

Last week we covered an accident involving a Texas school bus and a semi-truck. A similar wreck occurred this week. Unlike last week's crash that which merely injured several children, this week's bus accident did kill two kids and both drivers.

The crash occurred in rural Nebraska. The bus was dropping kids off after school on Wednesday when a tractor trailer truck crashed into it, lighting both vehicles on fire. The collision killed the drivers and both passengers. The truck driver was a local 21-year-old man.

Emergency responders took at least four other children to a local hospital. Of those passengers, the hospital only discharged one child Wednesday night after the crash. Two others stayed in the hospital overnight in stable condition but the fourth child remained in critical condition. The children ranged from age six to age ten.

While authorities have not said why the truck collided with the school bus, a number of common trucking problems could have been at play. The truck might have driven at excessive speeds or the driver might have been paying attention to phone-related distractions. Or the accident might have happened because the 21-year-old driver lacked the training and experience needed to avert a crash in an extremely large and heavy vehicle.
