Defective drugs can cause years of pain

People across the world depend on pharmaceutical companies to manufacture high quality, effective medications to help treat disease, prevent symptoms and for many other medical purposes. BayerAG, the makers of Yasmin and Yaz, have agreed to settle a lawsuit for $24 million dollars for claims that the oral contraceptives cause gallbladder injuries to woman that used the drugs.

Some people in the lawsuit suffered injuries to their gallbladders and other had to have them removed. While the company doesn't admit that it was liable for the injuries caused to women that took the drug, this lawsuit demonstrates that some drugs can be defective, and those that aren't properly tested before entering the market can cause significant harm to people that take them.

According to a report about the settlement, the gallbladder is not a necessary organ, but it helps in digestion of fats. The company also settled another lawsuit that was brought by women that claimed the pills caused blood clots resulting in heart attacks. Depending on what symptoms or damage the women in the case claim to have suffered, they might have to choose which settlement, if either, they would take, as taking one settlement might bar them from collecting on another settlement.

If someone believes they have been injured after taking a medication, they might be wise to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. They can help the person seek compensation and help them evaluate any settlement offer, as these offers typically waive a person's right to further legal action.
