Many think texters should pay more car insurance

Many people text and drive. Even more talk on the phone while they are behind the wheel. Although many people are distracted by cell phones while driving, many people also think that texters and cell phone users should be charged more for car insurance.

A recent survey found that 72.9 percent of drivers surveyed thought that people who were ticketed for texting while driving should pay more insurance increases than someone who was ticketed for speeding. While many would agree that both are dangerous activitieis, texting while driving has been in the news more regularly as technology evolves and people increase their risk of being in a car accident.

Although some states already limit the usage of cell phones while driving, many still don't have strict laws in place. This means people will continue to view these activities as legal and non-hazardous. If someone is injured by a negligent driver, they might be wise to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney.

An attorney can help conduct an independent investigation into the accident and try to understand why the other driver was distracted. This can be helpful in seeking compensation from the person and their insurance company after an accident.

Sometimes insurance companies will refuse to pay for expenses or underestimate costs of medical expenses, offering a person a settlement much lower than what is necessary to cover expenses. An attorney can advocate for a person to help ensure their current and future medical expenses are covered. They might also be able to help seek lost wage compensation.
