Pit Bull Attacks, Kills Two-Year-Old Boy in Texas
When the little boy ran after his balloon, which had floated into the yard of a neighbor, the pit bull chained up in the neighbor's yard attacked him and the boy lost his life. But the dog owner won't face charges in this particular Texas dog bite case.
As Alexandra Gratereaux reports for Fox News Latino, the town's mayor said:
"It is my understanding that the child walked right into the pit bull. We are not playing the blame game here. There is an ordinance. [But] the animal was tied up."
The controversy - other than the child's death - swirls around the danger of pit bulls and whether or not the town's ordinance does enough to protect people from dangerous dogs. As usual, one side wants to ban pit bulls, while the other says that it doesn't make sense to blame an entire breed of dog.
Colleen Lynn, who runs DogBites.org, says that three to seven cases of fatal dog attacks involving children happen every year in Texas.
