TxDOT’s ‘rules of the road’ during the Thanksgiving holiday

Last year during Thanksgiving, 26 Texans died and nearly 850 were injured in auto wrecks. Since Thanksgiving week is a heavy travel period, more cars on the road mean more accidents, and the Texas Department of Transportation is urging drivers to be vigilant.

“Historically, the busiest travel days are the day before and the Sunday following Thanksgiving,” said the TxDOT deputy executive director. “Thanksgiving is a time to be spent with family and friends, so we want to make sure Texans get to where they need to be safely.”

According to the TxDOT press release, here are some rules of the road:

  • Pay attention
  • Buckle seatbelts
  • Put the mobile phone away
  • Left lane is for passing only
  • Never drink and get behind the wheel
  • Obey all traffic laws

All of this is easier said than done, especially during Thanksgiving, when more drivers are driving drowsy or after having had a bit too much to drink.
