Why it’s important to follow the flow of traffic

If you’re driving along and a speeding driver races past you, you can instantly tell how dangerous it is. Maybe they have to aggressively tailgate you to get around, or perhaps they change lanes when there’s not that much space between them and oncoming traffic. It’s also easy to understand that a speeding driver could cause serious injuries to someone else that they hit.

But what if you come up behind a driver who’s going very slowly? That doesn’t appear reckless and they may even believe that they’re driving safely, but the truth is that both speeding and driving slowly cause car accidents. Anything other than moving with the flow of traffic increases the odds of a crash.

This is why speed limits are really important

Speed limits are often viewed as a way to keep drivers from moving too quickly, but they also serve as a general guide for how fast you should be driving on a given road. They take into account things like the road design itself or the expected traffic load. When drivers all adhere to this, they are all safer.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work. As noted above, there are drivers who think that going slowly is safer, and they may not change those habits. There are also situations in which the road design can’t handle the number of cars, and that’s when you get traffic backups and jams. Speed differences are one of the greatest risks that you face on the road.

If you do get injured in an accident caused by a driver who is going above the speed limit or even below it, then you need to know how you can seek financial compensation. This is especially true with catastrophic injuries like brain injuries, internal bleeding, spinal cord injuries and the like.
